Responsible for managing and overseeing the college’s payroll operations, ensuring employees are accurately and timely compensated, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and payroll tax requirements. Establishes and maintains robust internal controls and develops systems to support accurate payroll accounting and reporting. Provides leadership, supervision, and mentorship to payroll staff, ensuring adherence to established procedures. Prepares and submits annual payroll-related reports to the IRS and state agencies.

| Minimum Education/Training/Experience |
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field. In addition, the successful candidate must have at least three (3) years of payroll or accounting experience .

Master’s degree and five (5) or more years of higher education payroll experience. Advanced technical proficiency in payroll software, accounting software, and Microsoft Excel. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills for addressing payroll discrepancies and ensuring accuracy.

• Work requires the ability to read state, federal, and local regulations.
• Ability to promote and follow Board of Trustee policies. • Requires strong mathematical skill with the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as various statistical calculations. • Ability to manually calculate checks from gross to net for verification of program changes and employee questions. • Strong organizational skills to work independently and to prioritize a heavy workload under the pressure of competing assignments. • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, especially with regards to sensitive or confidential personnel or organizational matters. • Position requires critical thinking and deductive reasoning skills. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet constant deadlines. • Work requires the ability to write reports, memos, requests, and general correspondence. • Ability to work beyond scheduled hours when required. • Detail-oriented skills in proofreading materials and data entry to ensure accuracy on various reports. • Effective keyboarding skills and knowledge of related software. • Ability to organize data. • Ability to read and interpret job documentation. • Ability to provide accurate information or assistance to students, staff, faculty, and the general public in a timely and courteous manner. • Ability to perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards with minimal supervision within the assigned time frame. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. • Ability to keep up-to-date on changes in policies and procedures to maintain current working knowledge. • Ability to shift quickly between several tasks without loss of continuity. • Ability to independently identify and undertake additional tasks to be accomplished. • Ability to listen actively and demonstrate understanding. • Ability to recognize quickly the details of new assignments or problems. • Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of organization. • Ability to analyze data presented for resolution. • Ability to perform all essential functions of the position. • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. • Demonstrate high proficiency with MS Excel. • Ability to use software tools to present data clearly and concisely. |
